This week, Sunnyvale School District is proud to celebrate National School Lunch Week (October 13–17) with a flavorful twist! Embracing the theme “Taste the World: Your School Lunch Passport,” our Child Nutrition Program is serving up a variety of globally inspired dishes to take students on a culinary journey right in their own cafeterias. Featured menu items include beef lasagna, turkey taco bowls, cheese burritos, and chicken & veggie dumplings with noodles - a delicious way to explore new tastes and cultures.

Behind every meal is a dedicated team, and we couldn’t do any of this without the incredible support of our Child Nutrition staff. Their hard work and commitment make a lasting difference for our students every single day.

Across our 10 schools, we serve an average of 5,600 meals daily - spanning breakfast, lunch, and supper. Our two middle schools alone serve nearly 1,000 lunches in just 15 minutes each day, a true testament to our team’s efficiency and coordination. During the 2024-2025 school year, we proudly served over 1 million meals across all sites, including breakfast, lunch, supper, and snacks.

As our program continues to grow, so does our menu. This year, we’re excited to introduce more scratch-made vegetarian entrees, giving students even more variety and nutritious options. Look out for new offerings like a tofu sushi bowl, falafel lavash wrap, and veggie meatloaf coming soon!!

And the fun doesn’t stop there! On Halloween, students can look forward to a spook-tacular specialty menu for both breakfast and lunch. Festive favorites will include Pumpkin Patch Pancake Dippers, Waffles with Boo-Berries (blueberries), Witch’s Brew Mac & Cheese, and more hauntingly delicious surprises.

We’re proud of how far our program has come, and even more excited about what’s ahead. Here’s to nourishing students, celebrating culture, and continuing to grow - one meal at a time!
